Proposal for Support Including Health Insurance Premium Reduction to National Health Insurance Service
Measures to support students from households affected by Jeonse fraud in Incheon are being discussed, drawing attention to whether an agreement will be reached.
According to the office of Heo Jong-sik, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Dong-gu and Michuhol-gu Gap in Incheon, Heo, Incheon Superintendent of Education Do Seong-hoon, and Ahn Sang-mi, chairperson of the 'National Countermeasures Committee for Jeonse Fraud and Empty Jeonse Victims,' held a meeting on the morning of the 4th at the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education to devise ways to support students from households affected by Jeonse fraud.
Chairperson Ahn stated, "Most of the affected households have lost a large sum of money, so parents have to take on so-called 'two jobs' or 'three jobs,' making it difficult to provide meals for their children. It is estimated that about 40% of the approximately 2,700 affected households in Michuhol-gu have children attending kindergarten, elementary, middle, or high school."
Superintendent Do said, "Having moved more than ten times myself, I am well aware of how serious housing issues are," and added, "Let's look into ways to support households affected by Jeonse fraud together."
Accordingly, the countermeasures committee decided to identify the status of households with students among the affected residents, and the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education is expected to prepare support measures based on data from the committee and Michuhol-gu Office.

Prior to this, Representative Heo met with Park Hee-du, head of the Incheon Southern Branch of the National Health Insurance Service, to discuss support measures for households affected by Jeonse fraud.
Representative Heo suggested that since there are precedents such as health insurance premium reductions or exemption from overdue payments when special disaster areas are declared due to typhoons or heavy rains, the National Health Insurance Service should consider applying similar measures to households affected by Jeonse fraud.
In response, Director Park said he would confirm the scale of the damage and prepare support measures accordingly.
Representative Heo stated, "Jeonse fraud is not an incident occurring in a specific area but a 'social disaster' happening nationwide, so support measures should be prepared at the inter-ministerial level," and added, "I hope that the support policies initiated in Incheon will spread nationwide."
