The Department of Occupational Therapy at Gyeongnam Information University (President Kim Dae-sik) was finally selected in the ‘2023 University Student Mentoring Club Support Project Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
In this contest, university student clubs nationwide were evaluated based on mentoring programs they directly planned and operated to determine the winners.
The occupational therapy major club ‘CO-CO’ (Children Occupation- COperation) was selected for planning the ‘Dream Now Mentoring Program for Children and Adolescents with Developmental Disabilities’ in collaboration with the Busan Buk-gu Disabled Welfare Center.
The ‘Dream Now Mentoring Program’ is operated with the purpose of improving social skills, fine motor functions, learning readiness skills, and fostering positive emotions by connecting children with developmental disabilities and university student mentors.
The program provides socialization experiences for children with developmental disabilities and enhances university student mentors’ understanding of children with disabilities while developing their professional competencies.
Professor Park Joo-young, the advisor of the Department of Occupational Therapy, said, “Winning the contest helped the students gain pride and a sense of accomplishment in their major, allowing them to grow to the next level.”
The Department of Occupational Therapy at Gyeongnam Information University recorded an employment rate of 93.1% in the 2022 University Information Disclosure, achieving the highest employment rate among occupational therapy departments nationwide.
