Jeonbuk Jinan-gun, Illegal Dog Breeding Facility Exposed
Poor Sanitary Conditions and Signs of Carcass Incineration
Most Rescued Puppies Are 'Mini Bichon'
An illegal dog breeding farm was uncovered in a vinyl greenhouse in a remote mountain village in Jinan, Jeonbuk. About 100 puppies were confined in the breeding facility, and there were signs of illegal experiments conducted for breed improvement.
On the 2nd, Jinan-gun announced that it had uncovered an illegal dog breeding farm operated by a man in his 30s, Mr. A. After receiving a report from an animal organization about a place illegally breeding and raising puppies, officials from the county office, police, and members of the animal organization jointly raided the site and discovered the breeding farm.
The breeding farm consisted of three vinyl greenhouses and one container, where about 100 puppies were confirmed on site. According to the county, the places where the puppies were confined were filled with filth and excrement on the floor. Dog carcasses were found in a freezer, and there were traces of burning carcasses outside.
Regarding this, the county stated, "The breeding farm was littered with dirty puppy cages and trash, and dust and fur were tangled together, resulting in poor hygiene and environmental conditions."
They added that the breeding farm was located more than 500 meters away from the road in a remote area, and the puppies’ living environment and hygiene conditions appeared very poor.
The county believes that Mr. A illegally constructed the buildings and operated the dog breeding farm, selling the puppies bred there.
Most of the puppies rescued on site were identified as "Mini Bichon." The Mini Bichon is a breed derived from the "Bichon Frise," originally from France and Belgium.
The Mini Bichon, created by crossbreeding this breed with other small-sized dogs, has recently gained popularity in Korea. In the illegal dog breeding farm uncovered this time, there were also signs of illegal experiments conducted for breed improvement.
Mr. A reportedly told the police that he had been breeding dogs for breed improvement. After confirming that Mr. A had operated the illegal breeding farm for 7 to 8 years, Jinan-gun officials and the police obtained a promise from him to relinquish ownership of the dogs.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Jinan-gun sent 22 of the rescued puppies to an animal organization. The remaining approximately 80 puppies were quarantined in an empty pigsty in the town. After identifying each individual, the county plans to promote adoption of the rescued puppies as soon as possible.
Additionally, an investigation into Mr. A for animal cruelty and other charges will be requested from the police.
