Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 3rd that it will hold the ‘Hajeon Clam Five Senses Experience Festival’ from the 5th to the 7th at the Hajeon Fishing Village Experience Area in Simwon-myeon.
Clams are in season in May when they absorb organic matter from seawater to prepare for spawning, making their insides plump. At this event, a direct transaction market will be set up to allow visitors to purchase the highest quality Gochang Hajeon clams at prices cheaper than the market.
There will also be a limited sale event offering a permanent discount of more than 30% on prices.
Various experience events such as mudflat experiences, clam shelling, clam stacking, clam weight guessing, singing contests, and a clam kids zone will be available.
The mudflats of Hajeon Village in Gochang-gun are the central area of the Gochang mudflats, which are registered as a World Natural Heritage site, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and a Ramsar Wetland.
It is especially suitable as a habitat for clams, with excellent meat quality and taste, accounting for more than 50% of the national clam distribution volume.
Sim Deok-seop, the county governor, said, “At the ‘2023 Hajeon Clam Five Senses Experience Festival,’ themed around Gochang’s representative seafood, clams, families can enjoy a variety of rich food and sights during the family month of May. We will make every effort to prepare so that this can become the county’s representative festival.”
