Yoo Sang-beom "No Reason to Join Emergency Committee... Are Robbers and Drunk Violence Offenders the Same?"

Yoo Sang-beom, the chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, drew a line against speculations that if the Democratic Party of Korea falls into trouble due to judicial risks and shifts to a non-standing committee system, the People Power Party would also switch to such a system. He said, "There is no reason to do so."

On the 3rd, on KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strongest Current Affairs,' Yoo stated, "It sounds like saying that punishing a simple robber and simply going out drinking and committing a violent incident should be treated the same way."

He explained that the risks faced by the Democratic Party and the People Power Party differ in magnitude. He said, "The issue with Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party leader, is that the judicial risk he carries is significant, and there was even a party constitution amendment process to prevent him from losing his position during judicial proceedings," adding, "Internal issues like those involving lawmaker Tae Young-ho are relatively incomparable."

Regarding Japanese Prime Minister Kishida's visit to Korea on the 7th and 8th, he said, "At the US-Korea summit, Biden repeatedly expressed gratitude to President Yoon Seok-yeol for decisions advancing the US-Korea relationship, which, from Japan's perspective, is an implicit signal urging Japan to take concrete actions to improve Korea-Japan relations," adding, "there is a strong atmosphere in Japan to interpret it this way."

He continued, "From Prime Minister Kishida's standpoint, after the Korea-Japan summit, he achieved an overwhelming victory in the April local elections and gained 50% approval ratings. Most experts believe that normalizing Korea-Japan relations now would also benefit his politics," and said, "Prime Minister Kishida is expected to make a statement comparable to or exceeding the apology declarations of Kim Dae-jung and Obuchi."
