Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province has designated the commercial area around Cheonggyesan Oegol Village in Sangjeok-dong, Sujeong-gu as a 'Food Culture Specialized Street' and will hold the 'Healing Light Festival' from the 5th to the 14th of this month.
The specialized street is designated through the review of the Seongnam City Commercial Area Revitalization Specialized Street Deliberation Committee. Following the designation of the Oil Alley area within Moran Market as the Century Oil Specialized Street last November, this is the second such designation.
Seongnam City explained that the Cheonggyesan Oegol Village area has 168 restaurants specializing in serving hikers, including jeon restaurants, dubu (tofu) houses, Makgeolli houses, and muk (acorn jelly) restaurants. The designation as a food culture specialized street reflects the regional characteristics such as the spring azalea festival and the historical significance of Cheonggyesan Oegol.
To widely promote this and revitalize the Cheonggyesan Oegol Village commercial area, the city will illuminate the restaurant street with about 20,000 decorative light installations from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the light festival period.
From the first day of the festival until the 8th, a special stage and 300 seats will be set up at 281 Sangjeok-dong for celebratory performances.
Invited singers and performance teams scheduled to appear include Jang Mi-hwa, Inchiello (a popera team), Kim Beom-ryong, Sim Sin, Lee Young-beom, and Nanana (a gugak team).
A city official stated, "It will be a sensory-satisfying festival where visitors can enjoy food, lights, and performances simultaneously amidst a splendid night view."
