A Festival of Harmony and Unity
Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will hold the 25th Gyeongbuk Disabled Sports Competition over two days from the 2nd to the 3rd under the slogan "Together! Strongly! Until the End!".
On the 1st, the torch lighting and relay took place at Mangyangjeong Sunrise Park, and the opening ceremony on the 2nd will be held at the indoor tennis court to minimize discomfort for athletes due to the weather.
Most athletes will be seated in advance, and only a small number will participate in the entrance ceremony, focusing on alleviating athletes' discomfort and ensuring safety.
This competition will be held as a contest among 22 cities and counties in 12 events, with about 5,000 participants including athletes and guardians representing 180,000 disabled people in the province. The events will take place over two days at 12 venues, including the main stadium, Uljin Sports Complex.
The official events include athletics, jokgu, ssireum, gateball, weightlifting, park golf, badminton, bowling, table tennis, and billiards, while the demonstration events feature hangung and swimming.
Uljin-gun received requests for convenience facilities such as stadium facilities, accommodations, and restaurants to ensure a successful competition, making thorough preparations for athletes' convenience, including the installation of ramps.
On the final day, the 3rd, after the overall awards ceremony, the competition flag will be handed over to Gumi City, the next host city, and the event will conclude with the extinguishing of the torch, which had been burning with the passion and hope of the disabled throughout the competition, marking a grand harmony.
County Governor Son Byeong-bok said, "I deeply thank the citizens of Uljin-gun and related personnel who have made many preparations and efforts for the successful hosting of the competition," adding, "I send encouragement and praise to the athletes who participate with the spirit of challenge to overcome disabilities and prove they can do it. Especially through this competition held for the first time in four years, I hope the athletes move forward toward their dreams and goals through sports and that it becomes a foundation for the development of disabled sports."
