Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 2nd that the Changwon Jindong Sea Squirt Festival will be held for three days from the 12th to the 14th at the Gwangam Port area in Jindong-myeon.

The Changwon Jindong Sea Squirt Festival Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Festival Committee) decided to hold the 16th festival at the Gwangam Port area in Jindong-myeon, considering the production volume and timing of sea squirts.

This festival, held face-to-face for the first time in four years due to COVID-19, will be an opportunity to enjoy the taste and aroma of sea squirts filled with the scent of spring. It will feature various programs including a bountiful catch ritual praying for safety and a good harvest, an opening ceremony celebration performance, a sea squirt singing contest, participation events, a sea squirt food market, and sea squirt sales.

Changwon Jindong sea squirts, selected as Korea’s representative seafood brand in 2020, are the representative seafood of Changwon City known for their excellent taste and aroma. Their peak season is from March to May, characterized by a unique scent and a flavor that spreads in the mouth.

Used in dishes such as sea squirt rice bowls, pancakes, steamed dishes, fried dishes, pasta, and soybean paste stew, sea squirts are known to have excellent effects in preventing adult diseases such as arteriosclerosis and hypertension, as well as anti-aging benefits.

Je Jong-nam, Director of the Marine Ports and Fisheries Bureau, said, “Since the sea squirt festival, which could not be held due to COVID-19, is being held again after four years, we will do our best together with the Festival Committee to make it a successful event,” adding, “We will also do our utmost to prevent any safety accidents at the festival venue.”
