Assemblyman Lee Won-wook, KBS Radio Interview
"Election of Park Kwang-on, Finally Achieving Left-Right Balance"
Lee Won-wook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "If Representative Lee Jae-myung thinks that the party will overwhelmingly lose the general election under his leadership, there is a possibility that he could resign immediately, whether in December or at any time in between."
In an interview with KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strongest Current Affairs' on the 2nd, Lee said, "Representative Lee once stated that he would do anything to win the general election, that he could do whatever it takes. I believe all the implications are contained in that statement."
However, he added, "It is currently difficult to predict whether Representative Lee will continue until the end," and "if it is believed that a victory in the general election is possible under Representative Lee's leadership, he might continue until the end."
Lee analyzed, "From the government and ruling party's perspective, having Representative Lee in place might be the most convenient situation to contest the general election." This interpretation suggests that if the Democratic Party proceeds to the general election under Lee's leadership, a 'second round of the presidential election' scenario could be created, which might actually be advantageous for the government and ruling party.
However, Lee predicted, "Currently, with President Yoon Seok-youl's approval rating and the People Power Party's support hitting rock bottom, I personally think the argument for regime judgment will become very dominant."
Regarding former Representative Song Young-gil's voluntary appearance before the prosecution over the 2021 party convention cash envelope allegations, Lee said, "While he shows an attitude of taking responsibility, it does not seem effective," and added, "I think the public might feel somewhat bewildered."
On the election of Park Kwang-on, classified as anti-Lee faction, as floor leader, Lee evaluated, "Broadly speaking, it was a factional battle between the pro-Lee and anti-Lee camps. Park's election as floor leader signals a significant change in the leadership system," and described it as "the bird's left and right wings are now balanced."
