The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province has developed an Excel macro program using ChatGPT that reduces the manual work of calculating overtime meal allowances, which used to take over 30 minutes, down to 1 minute.
Suwon City is promoting administrative work automation by creating automated files using program codes provided by ChatGPT for repetitive tasks in each department.
The task selected for automation this time is the calculation of overtime meal allowances, used by 183 administrative staff members across departments.
Instead of manually processing meal allowance eligibility based on varying overtime hours by department, the process was changed to automatically select eligible meal recipients according to entered criteria and generate approval files. The execution time was reduced from 30 minutes to 1 minute, and the workflow was simplified from 3 steps to 2 steps.
Previously, errors occurred when manually verifying each case and changing times, but now the program automatically handles these tasks, reducing the error rate.
A city official stated, "Based on our understanding of administrative work, we were able to reduce costs by creating our own program using ChatGPT," and added, "We will continue to use ChatGPT to identify user-specific errors and provide highly refined programs."
