Securing Labor During Peak Farming Season... Promoting Domestic Employment Rate
Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province is recruiting domestic seasonal agricultural workers.
This recruitment is prepared to minimize job displacement of domestic workers by foreign workers ahead of the introduction of the foreign seasonal worker program in the second half of the year.
It is also conducted to resolve difficulties in securing labor during busy farming seasons due to the decline in the rural population and to promote the employment rate of domestic workers in the agricultural sector. The target applicants are healthy individuals aged between 30 and under 55 years old who have experience in agricultural work and are physically capable of performing farming tasks.
The wage is approximately 2.01 million KRW per month based on the 2023 minimum wage, with an 8-hour workday and one day off per week guaranteed. The main farming tasks include simple agricultural work such as sowing, transplanting, managing, and harvesting crops. Depending on the conditions of the farm, employment numbers, work period, compensation, and provision of lodging and meals may vary.
Applications are accepted until the 4th of this month, and applicants can visit or send their applications by mail to the Agricultural and Livestock Division of the Sancheong-gun Agricultural Technology Center. If no domestic workers participate within the application period, the foreign seasonal worker program will be linked and promoted.
Sancheong-gun plans to connect recruited domestic agricultural workers with farms wishing to employ seasonal workers, and agricultural employers and participants will autonomously negotiate working conditions and operate accordingly.
An official from the Agricultural Technology Center said, “Due to the nature of agriculture, there are periods such as sowing and harvesting seasons when labor demand is concentrated seasonally,” and added, “We expect that the introduction of both domestic and foreign seasonal workers will help stabilize labor supply during busy farming seasons and alleviate labor shortages, thereby supporting farming activities.”
