Jangheung-gun Launches Full-Scale 'National Funded Rural Space Improvement Project'

Odor-Emitting Pigsty Maintenance... Promotion of New Rural Space Development

Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Seong) announced on the 1st that it held an interim service report meeting and a TF meeting for the establishment of the basic plan for the rural space maintenance project selected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The rural space maintenance project is a contest project led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, aimed at restoring rural characteristics and promoting sustainable rural space regeneration in areas with significant pollution and indiscriminate development causing inconvenience to residents.

Last year, Jangheung-gun challenged the relevant contest project of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and was finally selected, securing a project budget of 12 billion KRW targeting the Unju district in Yongsan-myeon.

The report meeting held on the 26th of last month was attended by a total of 25 people, including Governor Kim Seong, heads of departments and offices, team leaders related to the work, and the service company.

The attendees shared professional opinions from related departments on the establishment of the basic plan by the service performing organization and conducted discussions.

The prepared basic plan includes the demolition of large-scale pigsty facilities, relocation through the demolition of individual livestock facilities within the village and establishment of a communal livestock facility, creation of a youth return-to-farming experience village center, village environment maintenance, facility operation management, and incorporation of the operating organization.

Once Jangheung-gun's rural space maintenance project is fully promoted, it is expected to resolve long-standing complaints from surrounding residents who have suffered greatly from odors and other issues, as well as revitalize the stagnated area.

Governor Kim Seong said, “We will create a new space that can attract young return-to-farming individuals by demolishing harmful facilities that many residents find inconvenient,” and added, “We will do our best to make this a nationwide success case.”

Jangheung-gun plans to obtain central government approval for the basic and implementation plans for the district by August next year, start construction from 2025, and complete the project by the following year.
