Daegu Suseong Artpia officially began full-scale operations on the 1st after completing remodeling work that lasted for 1 year and 5 months.
Since its completion in 2006, a total project cost of 12 billion KRW was invested for the first time to renovate the stage facilities, aging spaces, and outdoor plaza.
In line with its reopening, Suseong Artpia has adopted the slogan “New Beginning” with the intention of making this year the first year of its second leap, and plans to present high-quality performances, exhibitions, and art lectures throughout the year.
The stage facilities were remodeled to maintain the existing strengths while upgrading the aging equipment.
The long reverberation time (1.7 seconds), curved ceiling, and birch wood walls, which had been praised since the opening, were preserved. The outdated analog stage machinery, lighting, and sound equipment were replaced with the latest digital facilities to create the best stage environment.
The lobby was designed as a cultural enjoyment space that reveals Suseong Artpia’s unique identity and artistic nature. In addition to regular performance days, informal performances and lectures titled “Lobby Toktok” will be held frequently.
Furthermore, the heating and cooling zones were separated and insulation improved to enhance viewing comfort, and dressing rooms for performers, storage rooms, nursing rooms, and rest areas for cleaning staff were newly renovated.
In addition, 11 DID (Digital Information Display) locations and 2 video walls were installed to significantly reduce paper posters and banners, contributing to environmental protection and ESG management.
The exhibition halls were expanded in height and area to provide a richer sense of space, and the wall between Exhibition Hall 1 and 2 was made adjustable to allow use as a single space, increasing versatility.
The art academy lecture rooms were completely renovated, creating an “Alto Hall” that can accommodate small-scale performances in addition to lectures, and an “S Lounge,” a communication space for students in the form of a book caf?.
Moreover, by utilizing the outdoor plaza’s idle space, a healing garden with over 50 different types of plants was created for residents, and a container-type art education experience space called “Ateiner” (to open separately in July) was built, creating an environment where residents can approach culture and arts more familiarly.
Kim Dae-kwon, Mayor of Daegu Suseong District, said, “With this remodeling, it has become possible to accommodate a wider variety of performances, exhibitions, and art lectures, enabling us to provide residents with higher-quality cultural content,” and added, “We ask for your continued interest so that Suseong Artpia can establish itself as a cultural and artistic hub not only in Suseong District but throughout the region.”
