Lee Chang-yang, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, announced on the 28th (local time) that "the 'Advanced Robot Industry Strategy 1.0' will be prepared within the first half of this year."

On the same day, Minister Lee visited the robotics company Boston Dynamics located in Massachusetts, USA, and stated, "Advanced robots integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) will lead the next-generation robot industry."

Boston Dynamics is a world-class company possessing bipedal and quadrupedal walking robot technology that began at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1992. Earlier in 2021, Hyundai Motor Group started acquiring Boston Dynamics and has been deploying quadrupedal robots (SPOT) at Kia Autoland Gwangmyeong and Hyundai Construction sites to secure domestic market channels.

Last year, together with Boston Dynamics, the 'Boston Dynamics AI Research Institute' was established to develop advanced robots equipped with sophisticated technologies such as cognitive intelligence and motor intelligence.

Minister Lee exchanged opinions with Mark Raibert, founder of Boston Dynamics and its AI Research Institute, on global robot technology trends and the development plans for Korea's robot industry.

Minister Lee said, "I agree that advanced robots integrated with AI will lead the next-generation robot industry," adding, "Our government also plans to prepare and announce the 'Advanced Robot Industry Strategy 1.0' within the first half of this year to support the strengthening of competitiveness of advanced robot companies, creation of new markets, establishment of global bases, and to expand the level and scope of advanced robot technology cooperation between Korea and the United States."
