HD Hyundai Oilbank is expanding its product lineup by introducing premium diesel Ultra Diesel, following its premium and ultra-premium gasoline brands KAZEN and Ultra KAZEN.
HD Hyundai Oilbank ignited its market strategy by renewing and launching the premium gasoline brand 'KAZEN' in 2020. KAZEN is a combination of 'Kaiser,' meaning 'emperor,' and 'Zenith,' meaning 'the highest,' symbolizing its aim to provide the 'best quality' in the premium gasoline sector.

Premium gasoline reduces knocking phenomena. When gasoline does not combust properly, it produces a sound similar to hammering inside the engine room. Continuous knocking reduces engine output and, in severe cases, damages parts. The octane rating indicates the degree to which knocking is prevented, and KAZEN's octane rating is over 100, the highest level in the industry. In Korea, gasoline with an octane rating above 94 is classified as premium gasoline.
KAZEN has proven its excellent technology by being selected as the official fuel for the CJ Logistics Superrace Championship, Korea's largest racing competition, for five consecutive years.
In 2021, HD Hyundai Oilbank launched the country's first ultra-premium gasoline 'Ultra KAZEN' with an octane rating of 102 or higher. The strategy is to target the premium gasoline market with a two-track approach alongside the existing premium gasoline brand KAZEN.
With the increasing trend of imported cars in Korea and the recent trend toward more premium and larger vehicles, demand for premium gasoline is expected to continue growing. Especially, a culture of sharing information about gas stations with higher octane ratings is emerging in online communities, expanding the demand for 'high-end' gasoline products. In fact, the German oil company Aral sells products with an octane rating of around 102 under the brand name 'Ultimate.'
Recently, HD Hyundai Oilbank launched the premium diesel 'Ultra Diesel' and began sales at 41 representative directly operated gas stations in the metropolitan area.
Ultra Diesel is diesel fuel containing high-performance additives. Continuous fueling with Ultra Diesel improves cleanliness by removing internal deposits, restoring reduced engine output, and enhancing combustion efficiency. It also prevents engine corrosion, maintaining optimal engine condition. The effect is greater for older vehicles with severe engine contamination.
With the launch of Ultra Diesel, differentiated products can now be offered not only to gasoline vehicle drivers but also to diesel vehicle customers.
Park Ki-chul, Head of the PM Business Division at HD Hyundai Oilbank, stated, "We plan to actively target the premium market by continuously expanding gas stations that handle Ultra Diesel," adding, "We will continue research and development to provide customers with a wider variety of products."
