KOLMAR Korea Develops Eco-Friendly 'Paper Stick Cosmetic Container'

Reducing Plastic Usage by 86% Compared to Existing Stick-Type

Korea Kolmar announced on the 27th that it has developed stick-type cosmetic containers made from eco-friendly non-wood paper materials.

The paper stick replaces plastic containers used for lip balm, multi balm, and sun sticks with paper. Except for the rear cap that secures the product, the entire container is made of paper. The rear cap also uses an eco-friendly product from HDC Hyundai EP containing 51% paper components, minimizing plastic usage. Through this, the company explained that it reduced plastic usage by approximately 86% compared to conventional stick-type containers.

The core body utilizes non-wood paper mineral paper. Mineral paper is made from leftover stones discarded at quarries or mines. It is an eco-friendly material that naturally decomposes into its original form of stone powder when exposed to light upon disposal. Replacing 1 ton of regular paper with mineral paper can save 20 trees and 28,000 liters of water.

The paper stick applies the usage method of paper-wrapped colored pencils. It was designed to make cosmetics fun to use, just like colored pencils we played with in childhood. Korea Kolmar plans to introduce this to the market in the second half of the year through client proposals.

Kim Hyung-sang, Executive Director of Korea Kolmar Design Group, said, "With the development of this paper stick, we have equipped an eco-friendly future growth engine following paper tubes," adding, "We plan to continuously develop eco-friendly containers to broaden the perception that cosmetics are consumer goods that enable value consumption."
