Korea-US-Japan Coordinate Summit Meeting on 21st Next Month... "US Proposed First"

The governments of South Korea, the United States, and Japan are reportedly coordinating to hold a summit meeting in conjunction with the Group of Seven (G7) summit scheduled to take place in Hiroshima, Japan, from the 19th to the 21st of next month, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun on the 27th.

The Yomiuri Shimbun, citing multiple Japanese officials, stated that South Korea, the U.S., and Japan are considering holding a summit on the final day of the G7 summit, the 21st of next month.

Korea-US-Japan Coordinate Summit Meeting on 21st Next Month... "US Proposed First" On June 29 last year, President Yoon Suk-yeol, U.S. President Joe Biden, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida attended the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit held at the IFEMA Convention Center in Madrid, Spain, and are seated.

According to the report, the three countries are expected to discuss specific measures for the immediate sharing of information related to North Korea's missiles during this meeting. The Yomiuri explained that the summit is intended to strengthen trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan in response to North Korea's nuclear missile development and to enhance nuclear deterrence.

According to a Japanese government official, the U.S. is said to have proposed this meeting first. The Yomiuri reported, "As the South Korean government has presented a solution to Japan's forced labor issue and South Korea-Japan relations have normalized, the U.S. welcomes this and appears to be using this opportunity to strengthen the South Korea-U.S.-Japan alliance."

Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida invited President Yoon Suk-yeol to the G7 summit last month. If the summit is realized, President Biden, Prime Minister Kishida, and President Yoon will hold a summit meeting for the first time in six months since the ASEAN summit held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in November last year.
