All employees of the 5·18 Democratization Movement Archives who used part of the event budget for personal purposes have filed a formal trial, appealing against the court's summary order of a fine.
According to the legal community on the 26th, Mr. A was indicted on charges of breach of trust in the course of duty and received a summary order of a 1 million won fine from the Gwangju District Court, but he appealed and requested a formal trial.
The trial date has not yet been set.
Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of personally using 1.6 million won from the 5·18 event budget five times between May and June last year.
He held private gatherings by inviting acquaintances to a restaurant where meal expenses had been prepaid with the 5·18 event budget, drinking wine and other beverages on holidays or weekends.
He also deceived others by claiming to purchase items such as beam projectors necessary for academic forums or exhibitions but bought other items for personal use.
Due to these corrupt acts, Mr. A was dismissed from his job in January.
