The achievement of 1,000 cases of robotic thyroid surgery at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital was reached eight years after introducing the Da Vinci robot in 2014. The hospital emphasized that this record was managed solely by Professor Yoon Ji-seop of the Department of Surgery at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, making it a rare accomplishment even among top-tier general hospitals in Korea.
The symposium, which began with an opening address by Professor Park Chan-heun, head of the Breast and Thyroid Cancer Center, continued with congratulatory speeches from Director Shin Hyun-chul, Nam Seok-jin, Vice Dean of Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, Yoon Dong-seop, Director of Yonsei University Medical Center, and Kim Ji-soo, Chairman of the Korean Society of Endocrine Surgery. Following this, surgical staff delivered lectures on topics including the history of cervical external approach surgery in thyroid operations, market trends in robotic thyroidectomy, and the journey and clinical outcome reports of 1,000 cases of robotic thyroid surgery.
Park Chan-heun, head of the Breast and Thyroid Cancer Center, expressed gratitude to the medical staff who have worked to enhance patient satisfaction in various aspects, including minimizing postoperative complications, preserving normal voice, and cosmetic outcomes related to scarring. He stated, "We will continue to accelerate the best medical care and research to further improve patient satisfaction."
