Supplementary Budget of 2.214 Trillion Won

12.3% Increase Compared to the Original Budget

The Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam held the 2nd plenary session of the 246th extraordinary meeting on the 21st, where it approved a revised version of the 1st supplementary budget proposal submitted by Jinju City and processed various livelihood-related ordinances, intensifying its legislative activities.


This supplementary budget proposal underwent preliminary review by the relevant standing committees on the 17th and 18th, followed by rigorous examination by the Budget and Accounts Special Committee on the 19th and 20th.


Councilor Choi Ho-yeon stated in the plenary session review report, “We carefully examined whether the increased budget is essential for progressive city administration,” adding, “We urged the executive branch to ensure thorough project implementation by scrutinizing the proposal explanations and project plans for any deficiencies.”

Based on the review results, the supplementary budget proposal was approved with modifications in the plenary session. As a result, Jinju City's 2023 budget size increased by 243.3 billion KRW from the originally fixed amount of 1.9707 trillion KRW to 2.214 trillion KRW, marking a 12.3% increase compared to the initial budget.


Earlier this month, Jinju City had established a supplementary budget proposal totaling 2.2121 trillion KRW, with an increase of 220.7 billion KRW in the general account and 20.6 billion KRW in the special account. However, on the 20th, a revised budget proposal was submitted, ultimately requesting a budget allocation of 2.2155 trillion KRW. Nevertheless, the budget for the JinYangHo slide installation project under the Park Management Division was partially cut. Before proceeding with the project, a feasibility assessment will be conducted through a preliminary service project, and the implementation plan will be specified.


Additionally, during the plenary session, several councilors delivered 5-minute free speeches proposing policies to address urgent issues and strengthen public welfare.


Kim Hyung-seok explained the purpose of the ordinance he directly proposed to support youth preparing for independence and called for active policy implementation, while Park Mi-kyung suggested creating a landmark in Ojuk Square embodying the spirit of Jinju.


Councilor Shin Seo-kyung emphasized the public value of agriculture and requested the mayor to take the lead in increasing the farmers' allowance. Councilor Jeon Jong-hyun advocated for the introduction of a ‘Safe Lease Contract Assistance Service’ to prevent repeated rental frauds. Councilor Choi Se-yong presented proposals for the progressive relocation of Daegok High School.


Meanwhile, the Jinju City Council adopted this year’s plans prepared by each standing committee and officially began preparations for the administrative affairs audit. The administrative affairs audit is scheduled to take place during the 1st regular meeting from June 1 to 21.
