According to the automotive and OTT industries on the 23rd, the Netflix original movie 'Gil Bok-soon,' released on the 31st of last month, featured the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, known as the 'G-Wagen,' as the car of the protagonist, killer Gil Bok-soon (played by Jeon Do-yeon).
The G-Class is characterized by its sturdy frame body structure and angular body, which has been praised for matching well with the strong image of the legendary killer protagonist. The gasoline model of the G-Class, priced over 200 million KRW, is reported to have seen sales increase by 2 to 3 times compared to usual.
Considering that 43 units were sold in January, 18 in February, and 24 in March this year, it is expected that at least 60 units will be sold this month. Mercedes-Benz Korea stated regarding this, "Although the vehicle was not supported as PPL in 'Gil Bok-soon,' it is receiving a lot of attention due to the movie," adding, "However, the recent increase in domestic supply due to smoother vehicle procurement seems to have played a combined role."
The luxury car brand Genesis from Hyundai Motor Company also benefited significantly from PPL (product placement) effects in the drama 'The Glory,' which ranked first on Netflix in eight countries worldwide. Genesis sedans G80 and G90 appeared in the drama as the cars of the male lead Ha Do-young (construction company president) and Joo Yeo-jung (doctor), respectively.
