The prosecution has sent an opinion to the Supreme Court Sentencing Commission advocating for increased sentences for 'sex trafficking crimes involving children and adolescents.'
On the 21st, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced that it submitted an opinion on raising the sentencing guidelines for sex trafficking crimes involving children and adolescents on the 13th of this month.
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office emphasized, "Sex trafficking crimes against children and adolescents cause significant harm to the victims and have a high potential to escalate into related serious crimes such as abduction, enticement, sexual violence, and digital sex crimes," adding, "There is a continuous social demand for strict punishment."
They further explained, "We submitted to the Sentencing Commission an analysis of existing precedents, a review of related laws, and the necessity of strengthening sentencing guidelines to ensure that the sentencing standards for sex trafficking crimes involving children and adolescents can be enhanced."
The opinion submitted by the Supreme Prosecutors' Office is expected to be used as reference material by the 9th Sentencing Commission, which will be launched on the 27th, when deciding sentencing guidelines for crimes.
