National Police Agency to Spend 1.5 Billion Won on Joint Drug Investigation with Interpol

The National Police Agency announced on the 21st that it will conduct joint investigations with Interpol to apprehend drug offenders, investing a budget of 1.5 billion KRW.

The National Police Agency will begin a three-year joint investigation with Interpol on drug offenders from the 10th of this month until April 2026. This is the first time Korea is conducting a funded investigation related to drug crimes. Previously, the police collaborated with Interpol on joint investigations targeting child sexual exploitation material crimes and voice phishing crimes.

A police official explained, "There was a consensus that drug crimes are transnational crimes," adding, "Anyone involved in manufacturing, distributing, or selling drugs overseas will be targeted."

The funds will be used for apprehending drug offenders, intelligence gathering, training, and education. It is known to focus on capturing fugitives who have fled to Southeast Asian countries.
