The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will open the Ulsan Climate Crisis Response Education Center (Climate Education Center) on the 28th.
About 50 people, including Superintendent Cheon Chang-su, members of the Ulsan City Council's Education Committee, and student representatives, will attend the opening ceremony.
Located on the site of the old Daesong Camping Ground in Ganjeolgot, Ulju-gun, Ulsan City, the Climate Education Center is an environmental education facility for future generations preparing for the climate crisis.
The main building of the Climate Education Center houses an exhibition experience hall, an environmental practice hall, and an environmental library. The annex includes an environmental cooking room, an environmental laboratory, and an environmental discussion room. Outdoors, there are an ecological garden, a solar power experience site, and a climate plaza.
Serving as a ‘hub’ for local environmental education, the Climate Education Center operates various exhibition contents and experiential programs under the vision of ‘Learning through experience! Spreading through practice!’
At the exhibition experience hall, visitors can observe changes on Earth due to rising temperatures through videos and learn carbon neutrality practices through games and augmented reality (AR) experiences. The center offers 15 regular experiential programs, 5 special exhibition programs, and 5 event programs such as carbon neutrality environmental festivals.
Before the official opening, the Climate Education Center has operated experiential programs for schools and family weekend programs since the end of March, with about 2,000 participants.
An official from the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education said, “In line with the education office’s policy direction, we will operate various experience-centered programs linked with the local community to support school environmental education and strive to spread a culture of practice in the community.”
