Meeting with Ruling and Opposition Lawmakers to Request Bipartisan Cooperation
Park Dong-sik, Mayor of Sacheon City, visited the office of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee on the 20th and met with lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties to propose the early establishment of the Space Aviation Agency.
On the same day, Mayor Park held consecutive meetings with lawmakers from both sides, including Jeong Cheong-rae, Chair of the Science and Technology Committee, Park Seong-jung, the ruling party's secretary, Democratic Party lawmakers Lee In-young and Jeong Pil-mo, People Power Party lawmakers Jo Kyung-tae and Eom Tae-young, and independent lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang, urging the necessity of early establishment of the Space Aviation Agency and bipartisan cooperation.
Mayor Park explained to Chair Jeong the earnest desire of Sacheon citizens for the passage of the special law, and received a response promising to “do our best to build sufficient consensus and pass the special law within the term.”
Mayor Park also met with Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, to propose the establishment of the Space Aviation Agency in Sacheon.
Mayor Park emphasized, “With the advent of the New Space era, fierce global competition is underway to secure the lead in the space market,” adding, “It is an urgent situation that the special law submitted to the National Assembly be passed early so that South Korea’s space aviation capabilities can be consolidated.”
Meanwhile, since the 19th, Mayor Park has been staying around the National Assembly and other locations, actively meeting with lawmakers from both parties to urge the early enactment of the special law, continuing his vigorous campaign.
The special law for the Space Aviation Agency, which the government is promoting with the goal of opening the agency within this year, was approved at the Cabinet meeting on April 4 and submitted to the National Assembly on the 6th, currently received by the relevant committee, the Science and Technology Committee.
