"The Greatest Driving Force Is the Medical Staff's Organic Teamwork"
Professor Changwoon Kim of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sungkyunkwan University Samsung Changwon Hospital has achieved 500 cases of gynecological robotic surgeries in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions in the shortest period.
Since performing his first robotic surgery in March 2018, Professor Kim has treated approximately 100 patients annually, reaching 500 cases in just over five years. He has conducted extensive robotic surgeries for various female conditions such as uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, and ovarian tumors.
Professor Changwoon Kim of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Samsung Changwon Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University, has achieved 500 cases of robotic surgery for gynecological diseases.
Robotic surgery allows for easy visualization even in narrow spaces, and based on tremor correction and delicate joint movements, it enables precise surgery deep inside the body. Additionally, robotic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure performed through one or three to four small incisions in the abdomen, which reduces pain, bleeding, and complications due to the smaller incision sites.
Due to these advantages, recovery is faster, and since the skin incisions are minimized, the surgery results in fewer scars, enhancing not only the cosmetic aspects for female patients but also their psychological satisfaction.
Professor Kim stated, “The greatest driving force behind achieving 500 robotic surgeries in a short period was the organic teamwork among the medical staff, including anesthesiologists and operating room nurses. Based on this, it is most meaningful that we were able to provide safe surgeries to the local community.”
