The Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University is operating a 'Reading Discussion Instructor' certification course to cultivate information curators who lead the knowledge-based society.
The upcoming Reading Discussion Instructor certification course is designed for enrolled students interested in reading discussions and reading guidance. It covers comprehensive theory and practice on reading discussions, including ▲Understanding curricular reading and reading discussions ▲Media literacy ▲Narrative-style reading discussions and cross-questioning reading discussions ▲Reading discussions and thematic writing.
The educational program began with an orientation on the 19th and will continue until June 2nd. Lectures by professional instructors from the 'National Reading New Wave Association' will be held every Friday from 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM over a total of six sessions.
The Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University is currently conducting an orientation for the 'Reading Discussion Instructor' certification course.
Cha Seong-jong, head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University, stated, “With the advent of the digital knowledge-based society, the humanistic role of libraries is being emphasized, and the role of librarians is diversifying.”
He added, “Our university’s Department of Library and Information Science will continue to promote innovative educational activities to strengthen students’ major competencies and help realize their dreams through specialized, tailored curricula.”
The Department of Library and Information Science at Silla University was the first department established with a major in library and information science among universities located in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam. Based on over 40 years of history and tradition, the department has trained librarians and librarian teachers working in various libraries, information centers, and elementary, middle, and high schools.
Notably, in the 2021 academic year’s elementary and secondary librarian teacher certification exam, the department produced 10 successful candidates, ranking first in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions in terms of the number of successful candidates.
