Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 20th that it will promote a support project for the installation of food waste reducers starting from the 24th to reduce the amount of food waste generated.
This project targets large food waste generating businesses and general restaurants among food service establishments, providing a total budget of 50 million KRW to support 50% of the cost of purchasing reducers (up to a maximum of 10 million KRW) on a first-come, first-served basis.
The reducers eligible for subsidy support include food waste reducers operating by heating/drying, fermentation, fermentation-drying, composting/feed production, and maturation methods, and must be products that have received quality certification such as ▲Electrical Appliances Safety Standards (KC Mark) ▲K Mark (Korea Testing Laboratory), Environmental Label (Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute), Group Standard (Korea Food Waste Treatment Cooperative), or Q Mark certification from authorized institutions.
However, kitchen waste disposers that grind food waste and discharge it together with wastewater are excluded from the support target.
For more details, please refer to the announcement on the Seo-gu Office website or contact the Cleaning Administration Division.
A Seo-gu official stated, “Installing reducers will reduce about 80% of food waste discharge and also lower processing costs, serving as a step forward toward achieving carbon neutrality. We will continue to promote various policies that can induce food waste reduction into resource circulation.”
