The Only Jongmyo Ritual Reenactment Involving a Joseon Queen

The Cultural Heritage Administration's Royal Tombs Division to Hold Myohyeonrye Ceremony Until Next Month 1

The Cultural Heritage Administration's Royal Tombs and Relics Headquarters and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation announced on the 20th that the Myohyeonrye (廟見禮) ceremony will be held at Jongmyo from the 28th of this month to the 1st of next month. Myohyeonrye is a ritual ceremony held at Jongmyo, where the spirit tablets of the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty are enshrined, after the queen or crown princess has completed her wedding. It is the only state ritual held at Jongmyo in which royal women participated.

The Only Jongmyo Ritual Reenactment Involving a Joseon Queen

This year’s Myohyeonrye features the program "1703 Joseon’s Queen, We Greet You." It is a creative performance drama depicting the various emotions of Queen Inwon, the consort of King Sukjong, and the royal women before the Myohyeonrye ritual. The performance includes members of the royal family, a storyteller called Jeongisu, and a cat cherished and raised by King Sukjong.

The event will be held twice a day for a total of eight sessions. Advance ticket reservations will be accepted from 2 p.m. on the 21st via Ticketlink. There is no separate participation fee other than the Jongmyo entrance fee (1,000 KRW).
