Targeting youth aged 18 to 34 with no employment or training history for over 6 months

Implementing various policies including comprehensive job search support services and employment support funds worth up to 3 million KRW



Seongdong-gu is recruiting 80 participants on a first-come, first-served basis for the Youth Challenge Support Project until the 26th of this month.


Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it is recruiting 80 participants on a first-come, first-served basis until the 26th of this month for the 'Youth Challenge Support Project' to enhance the employment capabilities of youth aged 18 to 34 who have given up job searching.


The 'Youth Challenge Support Project' provides customized programs to youth who have lost confidence and given up job searching due to prolonged job preparation periods, supporting their employment. Seongdong-gu was selected in the Ministry of Employment and Labor's public contest this year and secured 400 million KRW in national funds to implement the project.


The recruitment targets are youth aged 18 to 34 who ▲have no employment or education/training history for the past 6 months and score 21 or higher on the job search abandonment questionnaire (out of 30 points) ▲youth preparing for independence (former wards) ▲youth who have entered or exited youth shelters. However, according to the Seongdong-gu Youth Basic Ordinance, youth aged 19 to 39 who have given up job searching may participate in a regionally specialized program if they meet the requirements.

Participants receive up to 3 million KRW in participation allowances and incentives upon program completion, with programs divided by duration. The short-term 'Challenge Program' offers 40 hours over 4 weeks, including close counseling, case management, career exploration, and employment capability enhancement services, with a 500,000 KRW participation allowance for completers.


The 'Challenge+ Program' adds a regional specialized program to the short-term program, running for 5 months with a total of 200 hours, providing a monthly participation allowance of 500,000 KRW and an additional 500,000 KRW upon completion, totaling up to 3 million KRW in incentives. Applications can be made through the 'Seoul Youth Center Seongdong Orang' website.


Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "We aim to identify socially isolated youth early and provide customized services," adding, "We will spare no effort to support youth so they can participate in social and economic activities as healthy members of society again."



Songpa-gu Provides 1:1 University Student Learning Mentoring for Vulnerable Children and Adolescents... Ensuring Equal Educational Opportunities

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced it will operate '1:1 University Student Learning Mentoring' online to reduce academic gaps among vulnerable children and adolescents and ensure equal educational opportunities.


The district first implemented the '1:1 University Student Learning Mentoring' in 2021 in a homeschooling format to minimize learning gaps caused by prolonged remote classes due to COVID-19. Approximately 1,000 students participated in a total of 8,830 sessions, with a high satisfaction score of 4.5 out of 5 in participant surveys.


This year, priority support will be given to vulnerable children and adolescents from 4th grade elementary to 3rd grade high school who need learning assistance based on basic learning diagnosis results.


The '1:1 University Student Learning Mentoring' is Songpa-gu's unique learning and emotional management program using the online video education system 'VODA.'

University students majoring in education, psychology, and related fields who have completed professional mentor training provide real-time 1:1 customized learning mentoring. Through learning diagnosis, participants receive focused coaching on individual study habits and weak subjects, effectively improving self-directed learning skills.


The mentoring program operates in cohorts for 2 months, with sessions twice a week for 40 minutes each. For those participating in the 'intensive operation cohort,' mentoring once a week for 50 minutes is also available. The program is supported by the district, free of charge, and can be extended once upon request.


Before the first cohort begins, the district plans to select 50 participants. Priority will be given to vulnerable students recommended by school principals, while general student applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis from April 14 on the Songpa-run website. Gwanak-gu Operates ‘Youth Single-Person Household Social Dining’ Communicating Through Cooking

Recruiting 150 youth single-person households until May 8... Applications available via district website or phone

Various meal kit cooking classes from seasonal ingredients to vegan options



Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is operating the social dining program ‘Healthy Table’ for young people who eat alone, supporting their healthy social activities.


The district will start the ‘One Bowl Quick! Cooking Class’ on May 17 and continue until June, offering a total of 10 sessions in 5 classes. The classes will cover various themes such as seasonal ingredients and vegan dishes, providing cooking know-how that even beginners can easily follow with cooking experts.


For convenient participation, the program will be offered both offline and online. Offline participants can visit ‘Youth Space Eum’ located in Nakseongdae-dong (Gwanak-gu Bongcheon-ro 62-gil 5), while online participants receive meal kits and join via the ZOOM app.


To facilitate smooth practice, participants are divided into two classes of 75 people each (Wednesdays and Fridays), and applicants can choose one class. Cooking sessions run weekly from 7 PM to 9 PM.

Eligibility requires applicants to be youth single-person households aged 19 to 39 residing in Seoul as of the recruitment start date (April 18). Gwanak-gu residents or independent youth are given preference. Participants must join the district-operated class open chat room, and the participation fee is 5,000 KRW per session.


Applications are accepted until May 8 via the Gwanak-gu website (Participation·Reservation → Participation Application → Course·Event Reservation) or by phone.


The district plans to expand beyond cooking practice activities by hosting network parties where peer youth can communicate, encouraging social participation among youth single-person households.


In particular, in June, 40 willing participants from the cooking classes will be recruited to hold a cheerful sports day, actively supporting healthy social activities for youth.


A district official said, "Through the social dining ‘Healthy Table,’ we hope young people who eat alone will maintain healthy eating habits and engage in active peer exchanges," adding, "We will continue to implement various projects to improve the health, brightness, and quality of life of youth."



Dongdaemun-gu Promotes Designation of Hwikyung Technical High School as Semiconductor Meister High School

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, attended the business agreement ceremony held at Seoul City Hall on the 20th for ‘Mutual Cooperation in Semiconductor Talent Development including Support for Semiconductor Meister High Schools’ with Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Metropolitan Council, and Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.


A ‘Meister High School’ is a special-purpose high school introduced to cultivate customized practical talents directly linked to industry demand. There are 54 Meister High Schools nationwide, and Seoul has four designated Meister High Schools in the fields of energy, new media content, robotics, and overseas construction.


In 2023, the Ministry of Education plans to designate 3 to 4 ‘Semiconductor and Digital Field Meister High Schools’ nationwide, and Hwikyung Technical High School in Dongdaemun-gu is pursuing conversion to a ‘Semiconductor Meister High School.’ Upon designation, Hwikyung Technical High School will reorganize departments into Semiconductor Design and Semiconductor Process Equipment to train semiconductor practical experts.

With the semiconductor industry's growth, an estimated 127,000 personnel will be needed over the next 10 years. Dongdaemun-gu plans to actively support Hwikyung Technical High School’s conversion by developing educational curricula, providing online and offline job skill guidance for teachers, and facilitating student practical training.


Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “As the need for industrial development grows due to global demand for semiconductor experts, we will spare no support to ensure Hwikyung Technical High School is designated as a Meister High School for advanced industry talent cultivation,” adding, “We will expand the education expense subsidy, currently the second highest among Seoul’s autonomous districts (10 billion KRW), to the top level, meeting educational demand for future talent development and strengthening growth momentum for specialized education advancement.”

Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) conducted the ‘2023 Resident Autonomy Council Capacity Building Workshop’ over two days on the 17th and 18th in its sister city, Gochang, Jeonbuk.


The workshop targeted the Resident Autonomy Council composed of heads of resident autonomy committees from 20 neighborhoods in Seongbuk-gu. It aimed to share best practices of resident autonomy activities by neighborhood and explore solidarity and cooperation among neighborhood resident autonomy committees through local cultural field visits, further activating Seongbuk-style resident autonomy.
