Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Practices Communication Administration by Walking Around Jeonnong-ro with Residents
Collecting Residents’ Opinions to Ensure Safety for Children Commuting to Seoul Dapsimni Elementary School
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, visited Jeonnong-ro in front of Seoul Dapsimni Elementary School on the morning of the 19th as the second site of the on-site mayor’s office program ‘Walking Dongdaemun’ to inspect the safety of school routes.
Together with parents of Dapsimni Elementary School students, officials from the Eastern Education Support Office, Dongdaemun Police Station, and other related organizations, he walked along Jeonnong-ro around Dapsimni Elementary School, listening to residents’ opinions and carefully inspecting potential hazards to seek ways to create a safe commuting route for children.
On that day, residents including parents conveyed the following opinions to Mayor Lee: ▲ removal of obstacles on the pedestrian path at the back gate of Dapsimni Elementary School ▲ securing safe walkways through parking regulation enforcement ▲ demolishing school fences and creating green spaces for a pleasant environment ▲ restricting vehicle traffic on side roads near the school during commuting hours ▲ installing pedestrian guidance voice traffic lights for children at the crosswalk in front of the school main gate.
The district plans to cooperate with related departments, Dongdaemun Police Station, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and other relevant organizations to ensure that residents’ opinions for creating safe school routes are implemented.
Following the first on-site mayor’s office visit to Sindap Elementary School on the 5th, a ‘School Zone TF for the School Route near Bap-Peo’ was formed. As the number of students increased due to the move-in of apartments near the school (Dongbu Cheonggwa, Hanyang Sujain Apartments, Cheongnyangni 3 District, etc.), measures to secure a safe walking environment for children are being steadily carried out.
The third on-site mayor’s office on the 21st will visit the ‘Dongdaemun-gu Startup Support Center’ to inspect the facility and meet with representatives and officials of resident companies to listen to their difficulties and seek solutions.
Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, “Our district is making every effort to ensure zero accidents on school zone commuting routes by thoroughly inspecting safety. We will continue to find answers on-site and carefully address residents’ inconveniences,” adding, “Through communication with residents on-site, we will do our best to create a comfortable and safe environment for residents to live in.”
Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, Takes to the Streets Cleaning Magok-dong and Gayang 1-dong
Walks Along a 1.5km Section from Magok to Gayang 1-dong Picking Up Cigarette Butts and Cleaning the Streets
Holds a Residents’ Meeting After Cleaning... Shares Opinions on Local Issues with Residents
Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, donned work clothes and sneakers and went out to clean the streets on the 19th.
At 3:30 p.m. that day, Mayor Kim, along with about 50 local residents, started from Seonduam Cultural Park in Magok-dong and walked along a 1.5km section passing Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station on Subway Line 9 to Gayang 1-dong Community Service Center while cleaning.
Mayor Kim and the residents meticulously cleaned cigarette butts stuck in places not easily visible, such as gaps in construction site safety fences and between stones. They also removed various illegally posted flyers attached to streetlights.
After cleaning the streets, an impromptu residents’ meeting was held. The meeting was conducted in a free atmosphere with a Q&A format where Mayor Kim directly answered residents’ questions.
Mayor Kim immediately responded on-site to matters that could be addressed right away and promised to carefully review and respond later to issues requiring long-term consideration.
Mayor Kim said, “I deeply thank all the residents who participated in the environmental cleanup activities to create a clean neighborhood free of cigarette butts despite the hot weather,” adding, “We will continue to carry out clean campaigns to make Gangseo-gu a clean district without cigarette butts.”
The village environmental cleanup conducted that day is part of the ‘Creating a Clean and Safe Village with the Mayor’ campaign, which has been ongoing since October last year based on Mayor Kim’s idea.
