"I Will Contribute to Creating a Balanced Democratic Party"
On the 19th, just before the deadline for candidate registration, Lee Won-wook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced that he would not run in the floor leader election.
On the same day, Lee stated on Facebook, "I will stop my challenge for the floor leader position in the face of the Democratic Party's crisis."
He said, "At this moment, just before candidate registration, I have once again judged that there are many things I can do for the Democratic Party's victory in the general election," adding, "Today, in the face of the desperate crisis the Democratic Party is facing, I also deeply considered what I can do well."
He continued, "The Democratic Party needs someone to leave words so that it can take a balanced path in public sentiment," and said, "The conclusion was that strengthening the role of 'The Path of the Democratic Party' and having a sincere voice is more important than my challenge for the floor leader position."
Lee is known as a prominent non-Lee Jae-myung faction member within the party and has been active as a member of the party's reform group called 'The Path of the Democratic Party.' He explained, "Since the last presidential election, I have continuously raised issues that the Democratic Party should not be trapped in hardline fandom politics," adding, "'The Path of the Democratic Party' was one of the precious outcomes."
Lee emphasized, "I will contribute to creating a balanced Democratic Party," and said, "With the vision opened by The Path of the Democratic Party, we will achieve victory in the Democratic Party's general election."
