Establishing a Foundation for Fishing Village and Harbor Regeneration, Promoting Fishing Village Vitality
Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Yeong-min) announced on April 19th that it held a completion ceremony for the ‘Yeongnam-myeon Udu Harbor Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project.’
The ‘Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’ is a Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries public contest project aimed at modernizing underdeveloped fishing villages and harbors to improve living conditions and increase residents' income, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of fishing villages.
Gohung-gun invested a total of 7.5 billion KRW over three years in the Udu Harbor Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, completing various infrastructure improvements and expansions in March this year, including ▲ installation of breakwaters and floating piers ▲ creation of a quay ▲ construction of a multipurpose hall and fishermen’s rest area ▲ construction of a shared workspace.
With the completion of Udu Harbor, a leading foundation for integrated regeneration of fishing villages and harbors, aligned with the project’s goals, has been established.
Furthermore, the restoration of harbor functions and improvement of living conditions are expected to contribute to increased income for local residents and revitalization of the fishing village.
Governor Gong Yeong-min said, “If the newly established infrastructure at Udu Harbor, seafood direct sales center, and surrounding linked facilities such as the Palyong Bridge complex rest area are well utilized, it is expected to lead to new income generation and improve fishermen’s income. We will continue to do our best to create a vibrant and desirable fishing village environment.”
