The donation ceremony took place at the 7-Eleven Jang-an Hyundai Hometown store in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, attended by key figures including Choi Kyung-ho, CEO of 7-Eleven, Hwang Sook-kyung, manager of 7-Eleven Yongsan Harrington Square store, and Lee Mi-kyung, CEO of the Environment Foundation.
The eco-friendly coin donation campaign has been one of 7-Eleven’s representative ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities conducted annually since 2018. Over the past five years, 7-Eleven has donated a total of approximately 373 million KRW in coin donations to the Environment Foundation. The entire amount raised this time will be used through the Environment Foundation for investment activities aimed at operating, managing, and expanding the 'AI Resource Circulation Collection Robots.'
In 2020, 7-Eleven, together with the Environment Foundation, installed six AI Resource Circulation Collection Robots for the first time in the industry to foster social consensus on resource circulation and increase the collection rate of separated recyclables. Currently, a total of 31 units are in operation. More than 50,000 people have used the service so far, collecting about 85 tons of PET bottles and cans. 7-Eleven explained that when converted into carbon reduction, the collected PET bottles and cans amount to approximately 510 tons, which is equivalent to planting 77,000 pine trees.
Meanwhile, as part of its ESG management activities, 7-Eleven is also conducting companion beach cleanup activities. In September last year, it signed a business agreement with the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, adopting Imrang Beach as a companion beach and conducting beach cleanup activities and marine environment protection campaigns more than three times a year, including plogging.
Jang Ah-reum, head of 7-Eleven’s ESG team, said, "We will continue to lead ESG management by carrying out various eco-friendly activities that contribute to carbon reduction."
