Policy to Minimize Medical Gaps in Medically Underserved Rural Areas
Eighteen public health doctors assigned to Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, have been deployed to each health center. This is expected to resolve the medical gap that had been maintained through weekly rotating visits to each center after the discharge of public health doctors in March.
Due to the continuous decrease in public health doctors, the number of medical doctors has decreased by two compared to last year, and among the 16 health centers, four centers will minimize medical gaps through rotating visits with nearby centers.
A plastic surgery specialist has been assigned to the health center to continue the free upper eyelid surgery project for seniors aged 65 and older. Three dentists and nine Korean medicine doctors have been assigned to each center to work.
County Governor Kim Yoon-cheol said, “We welcome the doctors who will lead the public health of the underprivileged Hapcheon-gun for the next three years,” and added, “We ask for your active efforts to improve the health of local residents. Please become good doctors who can comfort not only the aching bodies but also the lonely hearts of the elderly using health institutions with a warm word.”
Earlier, on the 17th, the county health center conducted job training for the 18 newly assigned public health doctors on their roles and basic duties as public health doctors, service regulations, education on integrity and kindness, and current pending projects.
