Ulsan Police Urgently Arrest Drunk Driving, Hit-and-Run, and Uninsured Drivers
A woman in her 20s crossing a crosswalk on her way to work was hit by a 'drunk driving vehicle' and fell into an unconscious state in a tragic accident. The man who caused the drunk driving accident and fled the scene has been caught by the police and is under investigation.
According to Ulsan police on the 18th, around 7:29 a.m. the previous day, a passenger car driven by a man in his 20s, Mr. A, hit Ms. B (female, 20s) at the intersection in front of Hyundai Department Store on Samsan-ro, Nam-gu. Afterward, Mr. A fled the scene driving the car.
The police, who responded to a witness report, tracked the vehicle based on nearby CCTV footage and other evidence, and about two hours later, around 10 a.m., they urgently arrested Mr. A at his residence 5 km away from the accident site.
Mr. A had been drinking late at a nearby bar close to the accident scene, and his blood alcohol concentration was at a level warranting license cancellation. The vehicle he was driving was uninsured.
Mr. A is under investigation for charges including drunk driving, hit-and-run, and driving without insurance.
Ms. B, who was involved in the accident, was on her way to work at the time. She suffered a head injury from the accident and underwent surgery at the hospital but has not regained consciousness and is reported to be in critical condition.
The police plan to request an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges of hit-and-run causing injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
