KCDF Gallery Shop Crafts Garden Opens Sales Space
Offering 10% Discounted Prices and Free Shipping Benefits
The KCDF Gallery Shop Gongyejeongwon, operated by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, will sell handicrafts made by artists with disabilities starting from the 18th. In line with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's implementation of the priority purchase system for creative works by artists with disabilities on the 28th of last month, a dedicated space has been established. The priority purchase system mandates that the government, local governments, and public institutions must compulsorily purchase creative works by artists with disabilities. The total purchase amount must exceed 3% of the total creative works purchased.
The handicrafts for sale this time include about thirty pieces such as pottery, metalwork, and textile crafts. They were made by thirteen artists with disabilities selected through contests and recommendations. Among them are artist Kim Cheol-min, who runs a pottery workshop; Lee Jeong-hee, a Jeonbuk intangible cultural asset embroidery master; and pottery artist Jo Seong-hyun, known for moon jars. Despite having hearing and physical disabilities, they passionately pursue their artistic spirit and actively engage in their work.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will support the distribution and sales of these handicrafts in various ways. A special sales exhibition will be held until the 16th of next month, offering a 10% discount and free shipping benefits, and facilitating purchases by government, local governments, and public institutions. To increase accessibility for general consumers, an online sales space will also be operated. Lee Eun-bok, the Ministry’s Arts Policy Officer, stated, “We will continuously establish a multifaceted support system to ensure the lives of artists with disabilities are sustained.”
