Selected by Ministry of Education Contest, Implementing Various Programs
Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has been selected as the first city in Gyeongsangnam-do for the Ministry of Education’s national public contest project, “2023 Lifelong Learning City for Persons with Disabilities,” securing 30 million KRW in national funding.
The Lifelong Learning City for Persons with Disabilities project, promoted by the Ministry of Education since 2020, aims to revitalize lifelong education for persons with disabilities and promote social integration between persons with and without disabilities through lifelong learning. Namhae-gun is the only city in Gyeongnam to be selected as a Lifelong Learning City for Persons with Disabilities.
Following its designation as a lifelong learning city in 2005, Namhae-gun has now been selected as a “Lifelong Learning City for Persons with Disabilities.” With this selection, a total budget of 60 million KRW (30 million KRW national funding, 10 million KRW provincial funding, and 20 million KRW county funding) will be allocated to actively promote projects that create a lifelong learning environment enjoyed by both persons with and without disabilities.
This selection is particularly encouraging as it reflects Namhae-gun’s active response to the high interest and continuous demands for lifelong learning from local disability organizations.
Starting in May, various programs for the Lifelong Learning City for Persons with Disabilities will be operated centered around the Namhae-gun Lifelong Learning Center, including ▲ establishment of a lifelong learning foundation for persons with disabilities ▲ customized learning programs for persons with disabilities ▲ programs linking persons with disabilities to independence and employment ▲ programs promoting harmony between persons with and without disabilities.
Ha Soon-cheol, Director of Administration, stated, “With the selection as a Lifelong Learning City for Persons with Disabilities, we will establish a foundation for inclusive lifelong learning within Namhae-gun and create a lifelong learning city where persons with and without disabilities harmonize.” He added, “We ask for the interest and participation of all residents so that we can open a venue for harmony between persons with and without disabilities through lifelong learning.”
