Choi Dong-yeol (Gangwon Provincial Office) became the new record holder of the men's 100m breaststroke in Korea after two years.
On the 16th, Choi Dong-yeol touched the pad at 59.63 seconds to win the men's 100m breaststroke final on the third day of the Jeju Hanra Cup National Swimming Competition held at the indoor swimming pool of Jeju Sports Complex.
This broke the previous Korean record of 59.65 seconds set by Cho Seong-jae (Goyang City Office) in May 2021 by 0.02 seconds. The record set that day was only 0.01 seconds behind the 59.62 seconds recorded by Watanabe Ipei, the winner of the Japanese national team selection men's 100m breaststroke. A fierce showdown is anticipated at the Hangzhou Asian Games this September.
Choi Dong-yeol, who set the Korean record of 27.09 seconds in the men's 50m breaststroke at the Hanra Cup in November 2021, has now become the record holder in two events. Choi expressed satisfaction, saying, "This achievement allows me to prepare for the upcoming World Swimming Championships and Asian Games with more excitement."
Choi Dong-yeol, who also won two events?the men's 50m and 100m breaststroke?at the KB Financial Korea Swimming Championships in March, will represent South Korea at the Fukuoka World Swimming Championships and the Hangzhou Asian Games, depending on the results of the Federation's Performance Improvement Committee.
