Have You Ever Seen a District Mayor Like This?...District Mayor Making Approval Rounds Through Departments Sparks Attention

Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok Personally Visits Departments to Talk with Employees, Receiving Positive Evaluations from Approving Staff

Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok is receiving positive evaluations for personally visiting departments to talk with employees and approve documents, instead of having employees wait in line at the mayor’s office for approvals.

On the 14th, Mayor Oh stated on his Facebook, “I personally visited the departments where the employees are to receive approval reports.”

He added, “Usually, due to busy work schedules, employees have to come to the mayor’s office and wait for approvals and reports, but today I visited departments such as the Welfare Policy Division and the Youth Future Division to proceed with approvals directly.”

He also said, “Besides work approvals, it was a good opportunity to observe the employees’ working environment and listen to their difficulties,” and added, “I will strive to meet more employees face-to-face and listen to more opinions in the future.”

Regarding Mayor Oh’s humble approach, Lee Sang-young, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, said, “Mayor Oh is the type who, even when meeting employees in the hallway, greets them first with a smile and says ‘Hello?’ so employees do not feel burdened and everyone likes it.”

Because of Mayor Oh’s attitude, it is believed that he may be almost the only district mayor since the implementation of local autonomy who personally visits departments to have conversations and approve documents.

Especially since many mayors who made employees’ work difficult have lost in elections, Mayor Oh’s behavior is expected to receive positive evaluations.

An executive at the district office said, “A mayor who does not receive good evaluations from employees is unlikely to receive good evaluations from residents either.”
