Andong-si Partners with Kakao... Business Agreement for Public Transportation Information Service Provision

Meeting with Mayor Kwon Ki-chang and Director Jo Seong-yoon

Bus Location Information to be Provided from Late May

Andong City (Mayor Kwon Ki-chang) and Kakao (CEO Hong Eun-taek) will sign a business agreement on the 19th to implement an ultra-precise public transportation information service.

On this day, at the mayor's office on the first floor of Andong City Hall main building, Mayor Kwon Ki-chang of Andong and Jo Sung-yoon, Director of Kakao Map Service, along with other officials, will attend the business agreement ceremony to provide ultra-precise bus information and promotional support, and plan to cooperate mutually to improve the quality of public transportation services.

The ultra-precise bus location information service uses the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to display real-time bus locations on Kakao Map. By updating bus location information at the centimeter level every second, users can check the bus’s movement status in real time, such as driving or waiting at a signal, greatly enhancing convenience for citizens, tourists, and other bus users.

To use the service, users can turn on the ultra-precise bus feature by pressing the menu bar in the top search window or the right layer button on the Kakao Map main screen. Ultra-precise bus location information is also provided when searching for bus stops or selecting detailed routes in public transportation navigation. Each bus icon displays the route number, and colors are differentiated by bus type, allowing users to quickly find the desired bus on the map.

Andong City has promoted the bus information system advancement project to provide this service and has completed the establishment of GNSS base stations and mobile stations. After data verification with Kakao, the service is expected to be launched as early as the end of May.

An official from Andong City said, “We expect that providing ultra-precise bus location information will significantly enhance the convenience of using public transportation,” and added, “We will continue to strive to provide smarter public transportation services to citizens and tourists.”

A Kakao official also stated, “We are operating ultra-precise bus services through collaboration with various regions including Andong City, and we will continue to collaborate with more regions to increase user convenience.” Kakao currently provides ultra-precise bus services in Jeju, Busan, Gwangju, Chuncheon, Mokpo, and Ulsan areas.
