Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 14th that it will hold the ‘38th Uigyeon Cultural Festival along with the 2023 Imsil N Pet Star’ cultural festival from the 5th to the 7th of next month at Osu Uigyeon Park in collaboration with the Uigyeon Cultural Festival Committee (Chairman Park Segeun).
Now in its 38th year, the Uigyeon Cultural Festival began in 1982 to honor the spirit of gratitude of Osu, the dog who sacrificed itself to save its drunken owner.
Recently, with the significant increase in pet ownership and the growing social awareness of pet-friendly attitudes, the county is expanding the scope of the Uigyeon Cultural Festival to develop it into a cultural festival that promotes pet welfare, improves awareness, and creates a harmonious space for pets and their families.
Accordingly, this year the festival was named Imsil N Pet Star along with the Uigyeon Cultural Festival, and a festival progress report meeting was held to review the overall event plan and current progress.
The 2023 Imsil N Pet Star is planned with special and diverse programs such as a nationwide pet fashion show where pets can showcase style and personality reminiscent of a film festival, a ‘Ask Anything’ pet talk show to answer curiosities, a pet expo featuring various pet products, and various pet experience events.
In particular, a variety of experience events for pets and their owners to participate together are prepared, offering differentiated programs suitable for family tourism during May, the month of family.
Comedian Kim Wonhyo will appear at the pet fashion show to judge teams showcasing unique runways with their pets.
The opening celebration will feature performances by Hong Jinyoung, Sweet Sorrow, VOS, Park Sangmin, Kang Hyeyeon, and Park Jindo to celebrate the Uigyeon Cultural Festival.
The pet talk show will invite CEO Kang Hyeonguk, known as the ‘Dog President,’ Professor Lee Woongjong, and veterinarian Seol Chaehyun to address questions from pet families, raising high expectations for the program.
Additionally, more than 11 pet industry product companies will participate, offering a variety of products for purchase.
Various programs for pets to experience are prepared, including pet play programs, grooming experiences, medical centers, and traditional Korean medicine centers.
County Governor Shim Min said, “We will prepare a diverse range of events at the 2023 Imsil N Pet Star, a happy festival for pets and their families, so that all pets, their families, and tourists visiting the venue can enjoy a joyful and happy time with various sights and food.”
He added, “We will strive to enhance satisfaction not only for pet owners but also for local residents and to transform Osu into a global center for pet culture through this industrial festival.”
