On the 13th, the Daegu Police Agency conducted a surprise drunk driving crackdown for two hours during the day in downtown Daegu, catching four drunk drivers.
At around 2 p.m. that day, a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.243%, which corresponds to license cancellation level, was caught driving on a road in front of Dalseong Park in Jung-gu. Around the same time, another drunk driver was caught on a road in Dalseong-gun. This driver was confirmed to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.062%.

In addition, two more people were caught in drunk driving crackdowns in various parts of the city and received license suspension penalties. The police plan to book all of them without detention on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). The police conducted this crackdown in response to the recent incident in Daejeon where an intoxicated driver caused the death of an elementary school student in a school zone.
A Daegu police official said, “We will continue to increase surprise crackdowns during daytime hours,” adding, “We plan to expand crackdowns to raise citizens’ awareness that ‘no matter the time, if you have even a little alcohol, you should not drive.’”
