3 Billion Won Budget to Support Local Universities for Six Months
Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will support local universities participating in the ‘1,000 Won Morning Meal’ program by providing 1,000 won per meal.
On the morning of the 12th, the district held a meeting with six local universities to hear their opinions on the ‘1,000 Won Morning Meal’ project and discuss support measures.
The ‘1,000 Won Morning Meal’ project supports college students with a high rate of skipping breakfast to have a healthy and quality breakfast for 1,000 won. Due to recent high inflation and increased demand for affordable and healthy meals, the government has decided to expand the support target this year and is recruiting additional universities wishing to participate.
Seung-ro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, is explaining support measures at the academic-government meeting on the 12th regarding the expansion support of the "Thousand Won Breakfast."
Currently, for one breakfast meal, students pay 1,000 won, the government (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) pays 1,000 won, and the rest is borne by each school. Seongbuk-gu, in agreement with local National Assembly members Kim Young-bae and Ki Dong-min and district council members, has decided to support 1,000 won of the school’s burden.
A district official stated, “We aim to increase university participation and enable more young people to benefit.” They added, “While supporting lunch or dinner would be ideal, we decided to support breakfast to coexist with the nearby campus commercial district.”
The district plans to invest a budget of approximately 250 million to 300 million won until November to support local universities participating in the ‘1,000 Won Morning Meal’ project.
Kim Seung-hee, student representative and president of Hansung University Student Council, who attended the meeting, said, “Many college students skip meals to save living expenses,” and expressed gratitude for the practical support for youth, hoping the benefits continue not only this year but also next year and the year after.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “Seongbuk-gu is home to many universities, and through continuous cooperation with each university, we are promoting policies that young people need,” adding, “We appreciate the response and cooperation of each school and will continue to invest generously and lead support for the future of youth.”

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, visited Sunsu Table, an ‘Eunbit SOLbap’ franchise store located in Yeokchon-dong, on the 12th to deliver agreements, signboards, and communicate with store owners and residents.
‘Eunbit SOLbap’ is a project launched this month to support healthy eating habits for middle-aged single-person households and youth preparing for independence. It provides ‘Eunpyeong Love Gift Certificates’ called ‘Eunbit SOLbap’ that can be used at designated side dish stores, supporting 40,000 won per person per month for a total of 320,000 won over eight months.
Franchise stores that signed agreements are those capable of selling side dishes in small portions for single-person households, offering a variety of soups, stews, and side dishes, and located on main roads or traditional markets for easy access by users. Currently, there are 26 stores, one to three per neighborhood, with plans to expand gradually.

Kim Gil-seong, Jung-gu Mayor, Conducts Close Inspection of Major Project Sites
Mayor Kim Visits Four Major Project Sites to Closely Monitor Progress
Directives on Preventing Safety Accidents, Considering Resident Convenience, and Linking to Local Economic Revitalization
Mayor Kim Promises “Administration Prioritizing Residents’ Safety and Convenience”
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, visited four project sites closely related to residents’ safety and convenience on the afternoon of the 10th to carefully check the progress.
The first site visited was the underground wiring project around Yaksu Market. Once the project, which relocates tangled overhead wires underground like a spider web, is completed by the end of this year, residents visiting Yaksu Market will be able to stroll in a more pleasant environment. After inspecting the site, Mayor Kim instructed, “Please ensure that rainwater does not accumulate on the ground after construction.”
He also visited the site of Seoul’s first monorail installation. Daehyeonsan Reservoir Park has exercise facilities and green spaces frequently used by residents, but they had to climb a steep 110-meter staircase on foot.
To alleviate this inconvenience, the district began construction in September last year to install a 15-passenger monorail. By October, residents will be able to conveniently reach the park in five minutes by monorail.
Mayor Kim inspected the distribution box around the construction site and instructed to organize the exterior considering safety and aesthetics. He also proposed creating a comfortable waiting area for the disabled and elderly before boarding the monorail.
At the lower part of Seoul Jungang Market, construction is underway to create an underground connecting passage linking Sindang Underground Shopping Center and Sindang Station. By the second half of this year, it will be easier to access the traditional market through Sindang Underground Shopping Center after exiting Sindang Station, which is expected to revitalize the local commercial district.
After receiving a report on the construction progress at the site, Mayor Kim checked how ventilation facilities are installed and moved to the underground shopping center where the passage connects, saying, “Let’s gather ideas on how to revitalize the shopping district when the construction is completed.”
The last site visited was the rainwater storage tank in Pildong. To observe how rainwater moves and is stored, he walked along the waterway and watched the operation of the sluice gate system. He then received an explanation from the responsible staff on how water levels are checked and controlled during heavy rain.
In the past, rainwater flowing down from Namsan used to flow directly to Cheonggyecheon, causing flooding in some low-lying areas of Euljiro-dong. The district installed a rainwater storage tank in Pildong in 2010 to prevent this. The Pildong storage tank can hold about 4,300 tons of water. Rainwater storage tanks installed in Hanok Village, Dongguk University entrance, and Yejang-dong also store rapidly inflowing rainwater during heavy rains.
Mayor Kim Gil-seong emphasized, “Even if natural disasters occur, thorough preparation can reduce damage,” and said, “We will continue to prioritize residents’ safety and convenience in administration to protect their lives and property.”
