POSCO E&C announced on the 12th that it has signed a 'Argentina Construction Skilled Workforce Training Agreement' with the UOCRA Foundation in Salta Province, Argentina.
POSCO Group became the first domestic company to commercialize lithium in Argentina by acquiring lithium salt lakes in Salta Province in 2018, and is currently constructing a lithium hydroxide production plant with an annual capacity of 25,000 tons near the Hombre Muerto salt lake.
Through this agreement, POSCO Group and the UOCRA Foundation plan to contribute to resolving youth unemployment and revitalizing the local economy near construction sites in Argentina by providing training that utilizes their respective expertise, knowledge, resources, and experience.
According to the agreement program, POSCO Group will offer basic construction training courses such as plastering, welding, and heavy equipment operation to over 110 unemployed youths, including female workers, providing opportunities to acquire construction skills and practical experience.
The courses to be established through mutual consultation consist of five beginner skill courses, each lasting 2 to 4 months, with a curriculum composed of 30% theory and 70% practice. Trainees will acquire various basic construction technical theories and gain on-site practical experience.
At the signing ceremony, Kim Kwang-bok, head of POSCO Argentina Corporation, stated, "We will continue to discover community contribution programs that can strengthen the job capabilities of youth in the Salta region and support their independence, doing our best as a global corporate citizen."
