Jeon Du-hwan's Grandson Posts Choi Chang-yong Teacher's Meritorious Deed Record on SNS
Jeon Du-hwan, former president's grandson Jeon Woo-won, revealed that his great-great-grandfather was an independence activist.
On the 7th, he posted a photo and merit record of his great-great-grandfather Choi Chang-yong on social media (SNS). Woo-won said, "My biological mother's great-grandfather, Choi Chang-yong, is a proud independence activist (patriot) of the Republic of Korea."
Choi Chang-yong participated in the March 1st Independence Movement in Gijang-myeon, Dongnae-gun, Busan in 1919 and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison. In recognition of his merits, the government posthumously awarded Choi Chang-yong the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Medal in 1990 (Presidential Citation in 1982). Choi Chang-yong is buried in the Independence Activists' Cemetery at the National Daejeon Cemetery.
Meanwhile, Woo-won has been expressing his views on broadcasts and SNS regarding allegations of corruption involving the Jeon Du-hwan family. He also visited the May 18th Cemetery to convey his apology related to Gwangju in May 1980.
