Gyeonggi Province will operate a memorial period for one week from the 12th to the 18th of this month to mark the 9th anniversary of the Sewol Ferry disaster.

During this period, the province will raise the Sewol Ferry memorial flag at three national flagpoles located at Suwon Yeongtong Gwanggyo Government Building, Uijeongbu Northern Government Building, and the old Paldal-gu District Office in Suwon. The Sewol Ferry flag features a yellow ribbon image along with the phrase "One small movement, a great miracle."

Additionally, the province will install stand-type banners with the phrase "The pain that does not disappear even as time passes, we have not forgotten. Gyeonggi Province will stand together" at the entrances and lobbies of each government building, and post web banners with the same design on the Gyeonggi Province website (gg.go.kr). Large memorial banners will also be installed at the entrance of the basement level 1 of the Gwanggyo Government Building and in front of Exit 4 of Gwanggyo Jungang Station.

From the 12th to the 14th, memorial items such as yellow ribbon badges and remembrance bracelets will be distributed to employees at the entrances of the government buildings, encouraging voluntary wearing by the staff.

Earlier, on the 8th, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited the 4·16 Memory Classroom at Danwon High School in Ansan to commemorate the victims and console the bereaved families ahead of the 9th anniversary of the Sewol Ferry disaster.

Governor Kim promised through his social media (SNS), "All 14 million residents of Gyeonggi Province will not forget the victims who became stars. We will do our best to establish a memorial facility that will be remembered forever."
