Dongdaemun-gu Creates Approximately 4,000㎡ Tulip Flower Garden near Jangpyeonggyo Bridge along Jungnangcheon Stream

Planted 86,400 Tulips of 28 Varieties Last November... Plans to Sow Zinnia Seeds Around Late April



Colorful tulips have fully bloomed near Jangpyeonggyo Bridge along Jungnangcheon Stream in Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung).


Declared a city of flowers last January, Dongdaemun-gu established a four-season flower complex of about 4,000㎡ under Jangpyeonggyo Bridge along Jungnangcheon Stream, a popular spot among residents, as part of the project.

Last November, the district planted 86,400 tulips of 28 varieties (16 common tulip varieties, 8 double-flowered tulip varieties, and 4 wild tulip varieties), and plans to sow zinnia seeds around late April after the tulips have withered, the district announced.


On the morning of the 10th, Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, who visited the Jungnangcheon Tulip Garden, said, “It feels vivid that we planted tulip bulbs last year, and seeing the flowers bloom so brightly now makes me realize that Dongdaemun-gu is gradually transforming into a city of flowers. I hope residents visiting Jungnangcheon enjoy their time with the fully bloomed tulips. After the tulips fade, we will plant zinnia and cosmos varieties such as Hwangha to cultivate Jungnangcheon’s riverside into a vibrant flower garden throughout the four seasons.”

Planted About 260 Trees in Nangok Area of Gwanaksan Park on the 10th


Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) held a tree planting event on the 10th in the Nangok area of Gwanaksan Park (San108-3, Nangok-dong, approximately 1,000㎡) with about 400 residents to commemorate the 78th Arbor Day.

About 400 participants, including Mayor Park Jun-hee, local residents, and civic groups, planted approximately 260 trees such as mountain cherry and Ipop trees, aiming to create a forest ecosystem that contributes to carbon neutrality and fine dust reduction.


Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “One tree reduces about 35g of fine dust and 8kg of carbon dioxide annually. We will continue to promote tree planting projects to respond to climate change and strive to make Gwanak a clean city.”

Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Seoul’s Gangseo-gu, attended the ‘2023 Community Contribution Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony’ held at Gangseo Lifelong Learning Center on the afternoon of the 10th to support the active activities of the selected scholarship students.


The award ceremony was held with about 30 attendees, including Mayor Kim Tae-woo, Song Jin-su, Chairman of the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation, and the scholarship students.

The 31 selected community contribution scholarship students, all university students, will serve as mentors for elementary, middle, and high school students at six welfare centers and twelve local children’s centers until the end of this year.


The scholarship students will provide tutoring in subjects they are less proficient in, motivate students through self-directed learning methods, offer career guidance, and counseling for concerns, receiving scholarships of up to 1.8 million KRW.


Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “I hope the community contribution scholarship students become good seniors and mentors who lead and grow together with elementary, middle, and high school students. The district will also spare no effort to provide multifaceted support for our students’ futures and dreams.”


Meanwhile, the Gangseo-gu Scholarship Foundation, established in 2001, has awarded a total of approximately 1.84 billion KRW in scholarships to 1,403 local students to date.



Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, Visits 2023 Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps Job Training Site


Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, took a commemorative photo with about 240 members at the ‘2023 Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps Job Training’ held at Haenuri Hall, Haenuri Town, on the afternoon of the 10th.


The Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps is a collaborative organization composed of local residents and civic groups to establish an advanced disaster prevention system and strengthen private sector capabilities in disaster fields. In Yangcheon-gu, the local autonomous disaster prevention corps consists of representatives from 18 neighborhoods, members, and 9 organizations actively engaged in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

The job training session shared excellent activity cases of the disaster prevention corps and provided time to learn about the duties and roles of corps members, including preliminary observation activities and disaster reporting.


Mayor Lee Ki-jae, who visited the training site, said, “I hope this training helps raise the safety awareness and disaster and accident response capabilities of the autonomous disaster prevention corps members. I also ask for active participation in preparing for and recovering from natural disasters such as typhoons and heatwaves expected this summer.”



Mapo-gu Invites Korea’s Leading 4th Industrial Revolution Authority, Professor Choi Jae-bung, to Hold Special Lecture for Public Officials


Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-soo) held a special lecture on the 4th Industrial Revolution for about 300 public officials in the large auditorium on the 2nd floor of Mapo-gu Office on the afternoon of the 10th.


Professor Choi Jae-bung, Vice President of Sungkyunkwan University and a well-known figure who has appeared on popular programs such as JTBC’s ‘Difference Class,’ was invited to give a lecture titled “The Emergence of Super-large AI and Survival Strategies in the Digital Civilization Era.”
