Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong)'s ‘2023 Yeongdong-daero K-POP Concert’ has been finally selected for the Korea Tourism Organization's ‘2023 K-POP Concert Support Project,’ securing 200 million KRW in national funding.

The ‘K-POP Concert Support Project’ is a program that supports domestic and international promotional marketing costs to expand foreign tourist attraction and commercialize K-POP concerts as tourism products. The ‘13th Yeongdong-daero K-POP Concert’ to be held on October 8 is a representative program of the ‘Gangnam Festival,’ a global city festival that consolidates Gangnam's cultural tourism resources. It is the largest free concert in Korea held on a special stage built by controlling Yeongdong-daero. Last year, top K-POP artists such as the world-renowned artist PSY, Highlight, Chungha, and The Boyz performed, attracting about 22,000 domestic and international tourists to watch the performance on site.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, “The Gangnam Festival was selected as one of the ‘100 K-Culture Tourism Events’ by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism this year,” adding, “We will prepare the Yeongdong-daero K-POP Concert, the representative program of the Gangnam Festival, well to enhance its status as a global festival visited by people from all over the world.”

Dongjak-gu to Install Pedestrian Overpass in Front of Sadang Lotte Castle Golden Foret...Improving Residents' Walking and Traffic Convenience

Smart Shelter and Bus Stop to be Newly Established Concurrently, Completion Scheduled for June

Dongjak-gu (District Mayor Park Il-ha) announced that it will install a pedestrian overpass connecting the traffic island in front of Sadang Lotte Castle Golden Foret (Sadang-ro 90) and the green space on the opposite side in June.

The area is Sadang-ro, a four-lane road with pedestrian sections disconnected, forcing nearby residents to detour over 500 meters to the overpass toward Namseong Station to cross to the opposite side.

The district plans to install the pedestrian overpass after reviewing various options and holding a residents' briefing session, considering the road's curved steep slope characteristics and traffic flow.

Elevators will be installed at both ends of the pedestrian overpass for the convenience of traffic-vulnerable people. The design is currently underway, with completion scheduled for June.

Additionally, a ‘smart shelter’ type bus stop will be newly established near the overpass on the opposite side, donated by Seegene Medical Foundation.

The bus stop will feature bus arrival information notifications, air purifiers, heating and cooling systems, and for residents' safety, emergency bells and CCTV will also be installed.

Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “With the installation of this overpass, residents will be able to walk and use public transportation more conveniently, as well as comfortably access the green walking trail,” adding, “We will continue to promptly improve inconveniences in daily life so that residents can enjoy a convenient daily life.”

Seongbuk-gu to Conduct Resident-led Large-scale Cleaning from the 10th to the 28th

Focus on Maintenance of Rainwater Inlets in Flood-prone Areas by District and Reduction of Urban Fine Dust

Examining Factors Directly Related to Residents' Safety Such as Flood Risk and Respiratory Diseases

Deploying Dust Suction Vehicles, Vacuum Road Surface Vehicles, and High-pressure Water Sprayers to Remove Airborne Pollutants

Seongbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will begin large-scale cleaning by district from the 10th to the 28th. During this resident-led cleaning period, about 100 residents per district will move in groups, focusing on maintaining rainwater inlets in flood-prone alleyways and removing road surface dust to reduce fine dust.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, along with district office and community center staff, will roll up their sleeves and walk through alleys to open rainwater inlets and clean accumulated cigarette butts, fallen leaves, and other debris inside. They will carefully inspect habitual illegal dumping areas and flood-prone back roads to ensure rainwater inlets function properly during rainfall.

In response to the recent worsening air quality, including the issuance of ultra-fine dust advisories, the district will also work to remove airborne pollutants. During the cleaning period, cleaning vehicles including five dust suction vehicles, six vacuum road surface vehicles, and seven high-pressure water sprayers will operate on major roads in each district to remove dust generated by road surface friction and participate in measures to reduce fine dust concentration.

A district official explained, “High concentrations of fine dust and yellow dust continue to be severe this spring. We aim to manage urban air quality by alleviating airborne dust and suppressing scattered dust through road water cleaning.”

The resident-led large-scale cleaning has served as a communication site where residents and administration meet since Seongbuk-gu's 7th elected term. The site always includes participation from Mayor Lee Seung-ro and district executives who inspect every corner of the area and listen to residents' complaints.

Residents of Seongbuk-gu say that the large-scale cleaning conducted seasonally and periodically has now become an act of caring for the safe living of neighbors and families. In addition to picking up trash and sweeping, they also check every corner of residential areas and alleys to preemptively remove potential hazards, acting as ‘safety guardians.’

Mayor Lee Seung-ro expressed gratitude, saying, “Alley cleaning is an important activity directly related to residents' safety,” adding, “Identifying and removing latent hazards in alleys in advance and reducing fine dust to prevent respiratory diseases are all possible because our residents take the lead in participating in cleaning.” He also stated, “We will devote special care and effort to environmental maintenance so that residents can enjoy comfortable and pleasant outdoor activities in spring.”
