Installation of Landmark Sculptures from 5 European Countries and Planting of Representative Flowers, Creation of Specialized Flower Beds Along Danghyeon Stream Evoking European Gardens, Jungnang Stream and Uicheon to be Completed in Early May
3,079 Hanging Flower Pots Installed Along 35 km of Major Road Streetlights and Pedestrian Overpasses
Bulamsan Butterfly Garden’s Four Seasons Garden of 380㎡ Newly Renovated with Theme of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Fairy Tale
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it is creating specialized flower beds reminiscent of Europe along major walking trails and parks, including riversides, to welcome spring.
This is to invigorate residents' daily lives through healing time walking along trails beautifully decorated with colorful flowers in fresh spring.
First, specialized flower beds will be created along riversides, which are major walking routes for residents. A total of 2,320㎡ along Danghyeon Stream, Jungnang Stream, and Uicheon will be planted with 25 species of spring flowers such as marguerite daisies, osteospermums, marigolds, and pelargoniums. Bright pastel-colored flowers in white, pink, and light purple herald the full arrival of spring.
In particular, Danghyeon Stream features a specialized flower bed themed on European travel. Landmark sculptures from the UK, Italy, France, the Netherlands, and Greece (such as the London Eye, Colosseum, Eiffel Tower) are installed, and representative flowers of each country (roses, daisies, lavender, etc.) are planted. Shrubs and herbaceous plants with attractive leaf colors evoke the image of a high-end European garden.
The Danghyeon Stream specialized flower bed is characterized by planting species with different blooming periods so that visitors can enjoy beautiful scenery continuously from spring to autumn. Three flower waterfalls falling from 3.5 meters above ground are also a highlight.
Hanging flower pots will be installed on roads and sidewalks so that flowers can be seen everywhere. About 35 km of streetlights on eight major routes including Dongil-ro and Nowon-ro, as well as 12 major pedestrian overpasses including Danghyeon Bridge and Hannae Bridge, are targeted.
The hanging flower pots mainly consist of petunias, which have a long blooming period, diverse colors, and lush trailing growth, along with 18 other flower species such as impatiens, celosia, and begonias. A total of 810 pots will be installed on streetlights and 2,269 on railings of overpasses. Spring flower pots will be maintained until July and replaced with autumn flowers around September to greet residents.
Nowon’s representative healing town has also been newly decorated with spring flowers. Following the rabbit with a pocket watch from ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ visitors can embark on a fairy tale journey in the Bulamsan Butterfly Garden courtyard. Here, 4,311 plants of 21 species including tulips, daffodils, and hydrangeas are planted, allowing children to experience butterflies in the garden and enter a fairy tale world surrounded by splendid flowers.
The Avatar Tree at Hwarangdae Railroad Park in Gongneung-dong will also don spring attire. This 7-meter-high and 10-meter-wide tree-shaped sculpture will be decorated with 1,078 spring flower pots including hydrangeas, impatiens, morning glories, butterfly orchids, and gaura. Modeled after the mysterious tree from the movie Avatar, the Avatar Tree will be newly adorned with spring flowers and is expected to serve as a popular photo zone for visitors to Hwarangdae Railroad Park.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Nowon is being decorated with flowers everywhere to welcome the new spring. I hope residents, who are living difficult lives due to economic downturn and high prices, can smile even for a moment by seeing flowers nearby.”

Gwanak-gu’s Urban Garden Delivers a Mother’s Love ‘You’re Strong! Mom 愛’
Volunteers Grow Crops in Nakseongdae Urban Garden to Deliver Side Dishes like Kimchi
This Year, Love Shared with 360 Father-Child Households in the Neighborhood...
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) started operating the ‘You’re Strong! Mom 愛’ garden on the 7th with about 70 volunteers and volunteer camp activists from 21 neighborhoods.
‘You’re Strong! Mom 愛’ is a project where volunteer camps and volunteers harvest napa cabbage, radishes, and other crops they grow in urban gardens, make side dishes mainly kimchi, and deliver them to low-income father-child households. This year, the project plans to deliver to 360 households.
On the day, Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, also visited the volunteer camp garden in Nakseongdae and personally participated in volunteer activities such as tilling the soil and planting potato seedlings with volunteers. (Photo)
The crops carefully grown by volunteers are delivered not only to father-child households but also to various neighbors. Rosemary is grown to provide tea and companion plants to elderly living alone, and at year-end, kimchi sharing activities are held, delivering love all year round.
In particular, ‘You’re Strong! Mom 愛’ not only delivers side dishes but also shares household know-how and parenting methods with father-child households, helping solve difficulties and problems in child care, receiving great support from residents.
Meanwhile, the resident participation platform ‘Volunteer Camps’ established in each neighborhood are actively conducting various activities centered on volunteer activists.
They have received the ‘2017 Seoul Volunteer Award Excellence Prize’ and the ‘2018 Korea Sharing National Award Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation,’ and this year, the ‘Volunteering by My Side’ camp, piloted last year with Seoul city support, will expand from five to nine camps, strengthening their role as a bridge between administration and residents.
Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “I thank the volunteer centers and volunteers who serve with dedication throughout the village. We will continue to spare no support to create a Gwanak-gu where I and my neighbors live together.”
Geumcheon-gu’s Environmental Cleanup Plogging Campaign ‘Pick Up GO, Reduce GO, Enjoy GO Geumcheon!’
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) held the first environmental cleanup plogging campaign ‘Pick Up GO, Reduce GO, Enjoy GO Geumcheon!’ at Anyang Stream on the 8th.
Plogging is a Swedish word combining ‘plocka (to pick up)’ and ‘jogging.’ It is an exercise of picking up trash while jogging, popular because it benefits both health and the environment.
‘Pick Up GO, Reduce GO, Enjoy GO Geumcheon!’ is held every second Saturday of the month to preserve the ecological environment and foster a volunteer culture.
This event was conducted with 18 volunteer clubs, with about 80 volunteers participating.
Volunteers gathered at 7:30 a.m. near the multipurpose plaza at Anyang Stream, received explanations about the route and method, and carried out plogging activities from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The route was divided into two courses: toward Geumcheon Bridge and toward Doksan Station.
Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I thank the volunteers who participated in making Geumcheon clean through small actions even at an early hour. I hope the ‘Pick Up GO, Reduce GO, Enjoy GO Geumcheon!’ campaign helps protect the ecological environment and spread the volunteer culture.”
